  • The MAX7219 is a serial I/O embedded common cathode display driver that connects a microprocessor to an 8-digit 7-segment digital LED display. It can also be connected to a bar graph or 64 separate LEDs.
  • It includes built-in B-type BCD encoder, multi-channel scan loop, segment word driver and 8*8 static RAM to store each data. A single external register is used to set the segment current for each LED.
  • The entire device includes a 150 µA low-power shutdown mode, analog and digital brightness control, a scan limit register allowing the user to view 1 to 8 bits of data, and a detection allowing all LEDs to illuminate.
  • It only takes 3 IO ports to drive a dot matrix.
